Roots on the Roof

  • Established 2015, this AMS Club, rooftop garden and social space is located at the Nest at UBC. RotR hosts a number of student opportunities and community events, as well as CSA memberships and community garden beds.

Orchard Garden

  • Established 2007, this garden is located at UBC Totem Field. This garden has a long and storied history at UBC. Part of the UBC Cultivating Learning network, they offer Community Field Experience placement to teacher candidates, and other research and teaching opportunities.

Agronomy Garden

  • Established 2017, this garden is located at the corner of Main Mall and Agronomy road at UBC. This is a student run community garden and social space.

Agora Café

  • Established 2005, this volunteer run café is located in the lower level of H.R. MacMillan building on UBC campus. It is open during the school year, with a goal to provide affordable, nutritious meals, while promoting the values of the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, and UBC’s goals of sustainability.

Sprouts Café

  • Established 1997, this volunteer run student café and sustainability initiative offers many opportunities to students. The permanent Sprouts Cafe, located in the Old SUB/Life building, is under renovations and set to open April 2018. The other cafe, Seedlings, remains open in the Thea Koerner House. Both cafes allow students to volunteer, preparing and serving up affordable local food. Other Sprouts initiatives include Community Eats, a by-donation, vegetarian, community lunch program; workshops; a bulk buying club, and a CSA.

UNA Community Gardens

  • Established 2008, these community garden are located at the Hawthorn Place, Rhododendron Woods and Nobel Park residences at UBC. UBC residents and members of the University Neighborhoods Association can apply for a garden plot.

UBC Farm Audio Tour

  • This tour is perfect if you want to explore the farm on your own accord! The UBC Farm is open from 9-5 for you to explore. Although it is a few years old, this tour provides a wealth of guidance and knowledge. If you would like more up-to-the-minute updates on all of our initiatives, attend a guided tour at our Saturday market or book a tour here.

Cultivating Learning Network

  • This network of learning gardens at UBC works closely with the Faculty of Education. Sites include the Intergenerational Landed Learning Project at UBC Farm, Orchard Garden, and Roots on the Roof. The goal of CLN is to help teachers to use garden settings to teach across the curriculum.

UBC Sustainability

  • UBC’s commitment to sustainability has received many awards and worldwide recognition. Their student resources include the SEEDS research program, course lists, program lists, and more opportunities to see how UBC has worked to integrate sustainability into every faculty.

SEEDS Program

  • SEEDS Sustainability Program provides students the opportunity to earn course credit, develop professional skills, gain first-hand work experience, and advance UBC’s sustainability goals. Browse all past SEEDS projects in the SEEDS Sustainability Library.

AMS Sustainability

  • The AMS Student Society of UBC’s sustainability office works with the university to create and achieve sustainability related goals. The Sustainability Projects Fund provides grants to student projects that are sustainability related.

UBC Food Services
