Mel Sylvestre featured in Podcast on Seed Saving at the UBC Farm

Mel Sylvestre, our Perennial, Biodiversity, and Seed Hub Coordinator at the UBC Farm, was featured in this podcast talking about the importance of seed saving.

Today, seeds are accessible to farmers through private companies via catalogues and few produce their own local seeds. Hence, the practice of seed saving is declining. Mel takes part in a local seed saving group who works to strengthen the BC seed industry.

“The knowledge for seed saving has been lost even more than the knowledge of growing food. So there is more of an urgency of reclaiming it, educating it and spreading it [seed saving].”
