Authentic Japanese Cooking Workshop



Join local Japanese food expert Kimiko Suzuki to learn how to make an authentic home cooked Japanese meal in this hands-on class. Learn about traditional “ichiju, sansai” meals, get introduced to all the ingredients you need for real Japanese home cooking, and prepare (and eat) a delicious meal of three authentic dishes accompanied by steamed rice.

This cooking class will include:

  • Overview of staple Japanese pantry items
  • Introduction to the pronunciation and meaning behind common restaurant items
  • Shared meal prepared as a group:
    • Miso soup with tofu and seasonal vegetables
    • Spinach Gomaae
    • Chicken Soboro rice bowl


About the Instructor

Kimiko Suzuki loves sharing her passion for locally sourced, simple and delicious dishes. Born and raised in Wakayama, Japan, she enjoyed the freshness, sweetness, and richness of vegetables picked from her grandfather’s garden plot and learned true homestyle Japanese cooking techniques in her mother’s kitchen. Kimiko also teaches at Cook Culture and Well Fed Studio in North Vancouver and her story has been featured in Edible Vancouver. She is also a food writer for Vancouver’s local Japanese language newspaper – Shimpo.
