Strawberry U-Pick 2017

Pick your own strawberries from the fields at the UBC Farm – right in Vancouver!

Saturday, June 24th 2017 | 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. | First Come First Serve

The strawberries have suddenly exploded into a joyous bounty for us all to harvest. Compared to last year, this year’s wet weather has delayed the strawberry season quite a bit. This week, there are more berries ripening than we can harvest in time with our volunteers. So we invite you all to come and share in the bounty!

We will run a first come first serve strawberry u-pick this Saturday during our Farmers Market hours from 9am to 12:30pm. There will be signs directing you to the strawberry field from the farmers market. Bring your own containers and come to the strawberry fields where staff and volunteers will show you which rows are ready for harvest. Once you are done harvesting bring the berries up to the Harvest Hut and pay at the UBC Farm Market Stall cashier. The pricing for u-pick strawberries will be lower than their usual price per pint at the market.

U-Pick FAQ:

  1. Are your u-pick strawberries organic? : Yes, the UBC farm is certified organic. All our market produce is organic.
  2. Is berry harvesting kid-friendly? : Yes. Extremely, please bring them and encourage them to explore and learn about the ripening process in fruits with their senses.
  3. What kind of container should I bring? : Something aerated works best, we use compostable little boxes with holes in their bottoms. But this doesn’t matter if you just devour all your berries before you get home.
  4. Can I bring my dog? : To the UBC Farm, yes. To the strawberry fields, no. Please have them leashed in a shady spot near the fields while you are picking away.
  5. How much does this cost? Are there tickets? : No tickets! Our farmers market is open to all! You just have to pay for the berries. The price for every U-pick depends on the quality and the time of the season, but it is always lower than the regular market price (which is $5 per pint).
