See this vendor’s market dates for 2018
Devi Arts Collective is a social enterprise that works with artisans around the globe. Bayoush Mengesha is an artisan that grew up in the Lower Mainland and has focused her jewellery design and accessory aesthetic on the beautiful nature that surrounds her. All pieces are made with love by her in her studio in North Vancouver. All pillows are made of ethically sourced fabrics from Bali and Guatemala. As well, I work with upcycled fabric from Turkey, Uzbekistan, India and Ethiopia. The fabric we source is handmade by women in remote weaving communities. The wall hangings and plant holders are handmade using organic cotton and ethically cut gemstones. I hand make and design the pillows, wall hangings, block art and plant holders here in North Vancouver myself. All my jewellery pieces are handmade by myself here in North Vancouver. I love to use ethically cut gemstones I source from a 3rd generation gemstone cutting family. My Ethiopian heritage, travels and WestCoast lifestyle influences my nature based and natural aesthetic. I use copper, brass and silver; materials found in traditional African jewellery. The feathers in my pieces are sustainably sourced from a family that lives off the land in the Yukon. When they catch the birds for food they send me the feathers. All pieces are made with gold plated chain. All pieces are handmade by me with love.

From Neolithic ornaments made of clay and stones to refined gold and silver, to pearls, crystals, vintage beads, and semi-precious stones. Jewellery design throughout the years has found a way to reflect the aesthetic of the times and fashion trends. For me designing jewellery is a seductive endeavour. See this vendor’s market dates for 2018
Mandalay Burmese Kitchen is a food truck located in the City of Vancouver starting up it’s first year in the industry. Our mission is to provide ethically, locally, and sustainably traditional and fusion Burmese cuisine. As part of this goal, we hope to introduce foodies and festival goers to the culturally unique flavours of the South Asian country of Burma (Myanmar). This includes some curry dishes, hot noodle dishes, salad dishes, Paratha (Burmese Roti) either stuffed with veg or meat or for dessert with toppings, soup dishes and grilled skewers; additionally we have unique dishes such as Burmese style fish tacos for some fusion. We have chosen our suppliers to provide the best tasting, and freshest quality organic veg, and ethical meats in order to provide a great farm-to-fork dining experience. We are also proud to have connected with local farms in the Vancouver area and support local, organic, sustainable agriculture; in doing so our menu is seasonally changing and dependant on crops that are in season. We have chosen to start from the foundation of our food when it comes to sustainability; we have created great relationships with local farms in the Vancouver area along with choosing our proteins and other ingredients as locally as possible. We believe that by supporting sustainable agriculture practices, and trying to source ingredients as close to home as possible are important ways to help the local food economy and other local businesses to stay away from the negative unsustainable practices of large scale agriculture practices. Local farmers are stewards to their land, and making sure it is kept for the future generations.

Maya In Exile Garden
Vancouver, BC
See this vendor’s market dates for 2018
In 1986 five Maya families came to Canada as refugees from Guatemala. Nearly a decade later, urged on by a UBC student, these families secured a plot of land at UBC Farm to practice their Mayan farming traditions and keep this millennia-old cultural knowledge alive for future generations. Now, firmly rooted in the Maya in Exile Garden, the ancestral crops known as the “Three Sisters” (corn, beans and squash) are grown along with an ebullient array of flowers and sold at UBC Farm’s Saturday markets. Along with the garden’s output, the goal is to celebrate and share this rich yet relatively unknown Indigenous knowledge and its stories in order to educate local people about true Mayan culture. To that end, members of the Maya in Exile Garden offer public workshops such as Three Sisters in the Kitchen and what is a traditional Maya cooking workshop. Authentic meals utilizing las tres hermanas (The Three Sisters) are featured, such as tamalitos de flor de calabaza con salsa de miltomate (tamales filled with squash flowers served with tomatillo salsa), ensalada tradicional (traditional salad), ejotes en sopa (green beans in soup) and dulce de calabaza (squash dessert). Keep an eye out for these workshops by joining the newsletter and meet the members of the Maya in Exile Garden at the farmers market every Saturday. Proceeds from the garden’s sales help fund a project in Guatemala that develops Mayan girls’ weaving skills to create unique, sellable goods and thus help lift these other families’ incomes and futures.

Out Designs
Surrey, BC
See this vendor’s market dates for 2018
I am a local Designer/Sculptor and my work consists of hand cut or carved gemstones set in hand-forged and -formed precious metals. When I say I cut I mean I buy the rough rock, slab it, sand and polish it until I have the final product: the cabochon. I set these cabochons into rings or wire-wrap them in unusual, minimalist designs. The gemstones and semi-precious stones I use are from all over the world. I make sure that the stones I purchase are ethically mined and benefit local communities. I am very strict about this. I also do stand alone carvings, the rock does all the work; I just cut out the excess.

Under good, we understand a handcrafted chocolate that is pure in taste and texture while giving your body maximum health benefits. Our chocolate is high in minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and flavonoids, which can be readily absorbed. Instead of conventional cane sugar, we use coconut sugar to give our chocolate the desired sweetness. In some bars, the natural sweetness of maple syrup, honey, blueberries or dates complement the nutty taste of the cacao bean. All of our products are free of artificial fillers and emulsifiers including soy lecithin and butterfat. Add to that purely organic ingredients and you are allowed to feel amazing from lips to belly, and inside out when you indulge in this bitter sweet chocolate treat.

The Good Stuff Brands
Vancouver, BC

The Good Stuff makes “ready-to-blend” smoothies: whole fruits, vegetables, and superfoods pre-portioned into delicious smoothie recipes. The smoothies are developed by a dietitian to best meet individual health goals, such as weight loss or muscle building. They also come frozen. This increases shelf life and actually improves nutritional quality since the ingredients’ nutrients are “locked in” soon after being picked. They buy some of the produce right from local farmers, like UBC Farm and Fresh Roots!

Buy produce grown by aspiring farmers and contribute to their learning at the UBC Farm site! The Practicum is a hands-on educational program designed to provide a full growing season of food production experience to anyone with a strong interest in sustainable agriculture and food systems. The Practicum program is hosted at the UBC Farm, a living laboratory of farming activities, guest speaker presentations, and classroom sessions. Practicum students also have the opportunity to travel to a number of local farm operations, and to make personal connections with experienced food growers. Practicum students design and implement a crop plan for a shared growing area and harvest and sell that produce at the Farmers Market as an opportunity to learn about direct marketing, produce sales, and raise money for their programming. Come stop by this stall to buy delicious locally-grown produce and chat to the students about their learning experience.

Wayward Distillation House is a craft distillery located in the heart of the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. Balancing tradition with creativity, Wayward is the first distillery in Canada using honey as the base for all of its spirits. With this as a curious starting point, the only obvious direction to take is an unpredictable one. Our signature Unruly Vodka and Unruly Gin are beautiful, hand-crafted examples of what can happen when unruly people meet unruly bees. Couple this with our seasonally changing, ultra-small batch line of Wayward Order Vodka Infusions and you will truly understand our need to break moulds and blaze trails. Welcome to our wayward life.
