UBC Farm Practicum Application

UBC Farm Practicum Application

The UBC Farm Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture is a five to seven-month experiential learning program designed for aspiring farmers, environmental educators, gardeners, and students interested in applying knowledge about sustainable agriculture and food systems.

Find program details, application instructions and the application form on this page.

For the 2020 program, we have two options for program enrolment dates. The majority of spaces available in the program will be for the full program: April 4th – October 24th, 2020.

In addition, we will have very limited spaces available for a summer-only option: April 4th – August 22nd. Since there will be so few spaces for this option, we encourage you to only apply for this option if your schedule truly prohibits you from attending the full program.

All applications received by September 24th will be considered for Early Admission.  The Early Admission pool offers highly competitive applicants an opportunity for a quicker decision to be made on their status. However, even very strong applicants in the Early Admission pool may not be offered early admission, as we only accept a limited number during the Early Admission process.  All early applicants not receiving Early Admission offers will be added to the Regular deadline pool of applicants.

All applications for the Regular Deadline pool are due by October 27th. All applications received after midnight October 27th (Pacific Standard Time) will be considered “Late.”  As long as the application form is still available online, applications will continued to be accepted beyond the deadline. However, please note that at any point beyond Oct 27th, the application form may be taken down, at which point no late applications will be considered.

An application fee of $25 CAD is required to submit the online application.  In unusual circumstances, this fee may be waived for applicants of limited means – please inquire.

All applicants will be notified of their status no later than mid-December.  If you have not heard from us by December 17th, feel free to inquire about your status; however, our staff size is limited in the winter, so we kindly request that you refrain from contacting us to inquire about your status before that date.

Successful applicants are required to submit a $500 deposit to reserve a place.  (This deposit will be considered part of the program fee.) Early Admission offers will occur in October.

  3. Your current resume
  4. Listing of two references. Professional/academic references are preferred; at least one reference must be professional/academic. Please include their name, title (if applicable), relationship to applicant, address, email and phone number. Please do not ask them to send us a letter.
