The UBC Farm accepts project proposals on an ongoing basis and requires an annual proposal resubmission for ongoing projects. Please read this page carefully. Paying attention to instructions here will help avoid delays in the proposal review process and ensure a successful project.
To propose a course, faculty-led or graduate research project, community-led initiative, industry-sponsored or third party project, or an undergraduate directed study at the farm, please fill out the Project Proposal Form. Proposals are reviewed by the Operations Committee and/or Steering Committee depending on the proposed project’s impact. Low-impact projects are reviewed on a bi-weekly basis by the Operations Committee. High impact projects are reviewed on a quarterly basis by the Steering Committee. For additional information, please contact the UBC Farm Academic Coordinator: ubcfarm.learning@gmail.com.

PhD Candidate Heather Kharouba collaborated with Dr. Judy Myers to research the potential effect of climate change on alder tree tent caterpillars
For students: You must have a UBC faculty supervisor confirmed for your directed study or thesis project. Student project proposals without a confirmed faculty supervisor will not be considered.
For all applicants: Project proposals must be demonstrate consistency with UBC Farm vision and the mission and goals stated in Cultivating Place. Please read these resources thoroughly before proposing a project. Providing clear links to academic initiatives or units at UBC will strengthen likelihood of approval for project proposals from community, industry, and third parties.
For high-impact projects, please leave at least 4 months lead time for the Operations and/or Steering Committee to consider your project proposal and provide a response. Project proposals that require fewer farm resources, less farm staff time, less farm space, no financial assistance, and little or no permanent alteration of the farm site will have a faster turnaround time.
After the initial proposal is received and approved, project fees will be assessed for setup, field space, labour costs, machinery costs, input costs, greenhouse space, and cleanup on a project-by-project basis based the UBC Farm’s established fee structure. Alternative payment arrangements can be accommodated for low/no-budget projects.
