LiteFarm Research Assistant
  • Program: Global Resource Systems/ Land and Food Systems
  • Favourite veggie season/fun fact: This summer while working on an organic farm in Powell River I started a blog called plantgirlandsoilboy to reflect on my learning experiences and share the ups and downs with others. In general, if I’m not outside farming, running in the woods, reading a book, or spending time with my roomies, I can be found at UBC’s Salsa Rueda club trying to find my rhythm.

The thing I am most excited about this year is connecting with and listening to others on the farm to hear about their ideas and aspiration!

Perennial and Seed Crops
  • Program: LFS, Applied Biology, 4th Year
  • I am a 4th year student in Sustainable Agriculture and the Environment and have been in my position as the Seed Crop worker since September 2021! I love all aspects of growing food, but seeds are especially important to me because they represent both the beginning and the end of many crop plants' life cycles. A fun fact I can share about seeds and the UBC farm is that in 2021 the Farm harvested over 1 million beet seeds!
Alisha Lettman

Alisha Lettman

ARC Program Leader
  • Alisha Lettman is the founder of the Legacy Growers Collective, a network for Afro-Indigenous centred farming, education, and food security. Alisha is Jamaican and Indian. Learners deepen their understanding of Indigenous and Afrocentric connections to the land while exploring food justice, local wildlife and our traditional foods and plant medicines. They learn, play and get their hands into the earth as they grow, care for and harvest their produce.

    James Holland

    James Holland (He/him)

James spent his early years living in the Ottawa Valley and went on to obtain a B.Sc. in Environmental Science from the University of Guelph. In the 5 years since graduating, he has been involved in the planning and delivery of various biodiversity data collection projects in Ontario and Alberta. He sees his transition from biology to agriculture as a natural one because ecological principles form the basis of both! His keenness to learn about organic agriculture stems from a desire to build community health, sustainability, and resilience, and a hunger to learn and share practical skills. When not hard at work he can be found climbing, canoeing, sharing meals, and biking around neighborhoods admiring all the neat porches!

    Air (Butri) Jitwattanapat (She/her)

My name is Air Butri Jitwattanapat. I was born and raised in Thailand. I moved to Vancouver in 2012 as an ESL student. Living in the Pacific Northwest coastal region allows me to learn more about a rich bounty of natural ingredients. So this year, I decided to pursue my studies in a sustainable agriculture at UBC farm because food has always really interested me from a young age and I want to learn about where does real food come from. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, baking sourdough bread, sourcing seasonal local ingredients, and cooking them by applying my Thai and Southeast Asian background to the dish.
