Field Trips and Guided Tours

Field Trips and Guided Tours at the UBC Farm

Learn about growing food and food sustainability at the UBC Farm. Our guided tours and field trips immerse visitors in the landscape of a working farm and research, community and teaching hub!

The UBC Farm provides a unique site for learning. Our tours and field trips engage visitors in place-based learning about biodiversity, climate change, sustainable agriculture, food systems, Indigenous territory and food sovereignty, and innovative research.

We encourage you to request tours at least two weeks in advance to ensure availability.

Post Secondary and Community Groups

Guided tours of the UBC Farm for university classes and community groups can be tailored for your topic and needs.

How much do tours cost?
One-hour guided tours are $100. If this doesn't fit within your budget, let us know as we sometimes offer discounts for not-for-profit groups and UBC courses.

How many people can fit in a tour?
We limit tours to 30 people. If your group is larger than 30, please book two tours.

What will we visit on the tour?
Our usual tour stops at the Children's Garden, Indigenous Gardens, field research, Practicum plot, production fields, apple orchard, truffiere, and beehives. Let us know if there's anything else you'd like to visit or any special topic requests.

Are tours wheelchair accessible?
Our standard tour route follows some narrow, rocky, and overgrown paths, including through fields, that are likely not wheelchair accessible. Let us know and we're super happy to stick to wider and smoother accessible paths around the fields.

Where will we meet for a tour?
Meet your tour guide at the designated time at the front gate entrance to the Farm, at 3461 Ross Drive.

How do I get to the Farm?
The Farm is located at 3461 Ross Drive, in the Wesbrook Village neighbourhood of UBC Campus. The Farm is accessible by the R4, 49, 33, 25, and 68 buses. There is a bike lane along W 16th Avenue and down Wesbrook mall and East mall that lead to the Farm.

Where can I park?
There are 9 paid parking spaces outside of the Farm gate, one of them a reserved accessible space. These are subject to monitoring from UBC parking and payable through the Honk mobile app. UBC Staff and Faculty parking passes still work at the Farm. Street parking is available throughout the Wesbrook Village neighbourhood.

What should I wear?
Please wear sturdy and closed-toed footwear suitable for walking. It sometimes gets muddy and wet along the tour route. Please dress for the weather, including sun protection and/or raingear.
