Saturday Farmers’ Market Vendor Feature: Tayybeh Syrian Cuisine
This week we are excited to feature one of our new vendors for 2018: Tayybeh Syrian Cuisine. Founded by Nihal Elwan in late 2016 as a social enterprise to support Syrian women chefs in Vancouver, Tayybeh has grown from neighbourhood pop-up dinners to catering large crowds and now farmers’ markets.

Known for their delicious food, their pop-up dinners have been selling out fast with flavourful dishes from Syria. Their menu at the UBC Farm Saturday Farmers’ Market will include dips to take home such as Mutabbal (creamy smoked eggplant), Mhammara (speciality Syrian red pepper spread), and Baba Ghannouj (eggplant, peppers and pomegrante) as well as full vegetarian hot meals with falafel, dip, salad and rice or bread. They offer vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options through these home-style recipes.

Tayybeh in Arabic means both delicious and kind, an apt title for this incredible project. While bringing flavourful food to Vancouver’s local community, the project also provides important community and relationship-building among Syrian newcomers and between them and their neighbours. No surprise that the element that brings people together is food!
This past week Tayybeh was out at UBC Farm catering a Community Iftaar dinner, hosted with SFU’s Centre for Comparitive Muslim Studies. Community members were wowed by their delicious dishes and we’re so excited to have them back this Saturday for our first market of the year.
Find Tayybeh Syrian Cuisine serving up delicious food at the UBC Farm Saturday Farmers’ Market on June 2, June 9, June 23, July 14, July 28, August 18, September 1, September 8, and September 22.
