About this Workshop

Growing your own mushrooms is an easy way to boost your home-grown nutrition and grow your own medicine. This workshop will offer an overview of some of the many ways you can grow mushrooms indoors at your home, apartment or on a balcony; and highlight ways you can make use of household waste as a food source for your mushrooms.This is suitable for beginners to mushroom cultivation, and for those who have tried without success to grow mushrooms. We will go through and demonstrate growing Oyster, Shiitake and Lions Mane mushrooms and offer instructions for doing it yourself.

About the Instructor

Danielle Stevenson is an applied mycologist and runs D.I.Y. Fungi, offering education and mushroom cultures to help people and communities grow mushrooms for food and medicine, and implementing mycoremediation and waste management research. She is currently working on a PhD in Environmental Toxicology at University of California, Riverside, where she studies arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi – toxic metal interactions in agriculture. She is also advisor to the Healing City Soils project, a fellow with the Foundation for Food and Agriculture and the Global Food Initiative and a board member with CoRenewal and the Association for Women in Science (Riverside).
